Trees Hate You is a short platformer built entirely around traps, and yeah—it really lives up to the name. What looks like a calm little walk through the forest turns into a series of unexpected (and honestly pretty funny) failures.
At first, you think it’s straightforward. Just move forward, jump over things, nothing unusual. But after a few steps, you start hesitating. The game keeps tricking you into making the wrong move, and suddenly you’re second-guessing everything—even the safest-looking path.
The good thing is, it never feels too punishing. You fail a lot, sure, but retries are instant. So instead of getting annoyed, you just go again. And little by little, you start to see how the game is setting you up. It’s not really about being fast—it’s more about paying attention… and maybe having a bit of patience.
Trap-Driven Gameplay
Every level is basically a setup. Safe paths aren’t always safe, signs can mislead you, and hazards tend to show up right when you think you’re fine. It feels intentional—and yeah, it is.
Fast Retry System
You die, and you’re back immediately. No waiting around. That quick loop is what keeps it fun instead of frustrating.
Readable Visual Design
Even when the game tricks you, it usually makes sense afterward. You can look at what happened and go, “okay… I see what it did there.”
Short Play Sessions
Runs don’t take long, which makes it easy to jump in for a bit. Though honestly, one run usually turns into a few more.
Humor Through Design
This is probably the best part. The traps feel like punchlines. You mess up, but it’s kind of funny, so you don’t mind trying again.
The controls are simple and responsive, which helps a lot. You’re not fighting the movement—you’re just trying not to fall into whatever trick the game set up this time.
